Many entrepreneurs need advice and mentorship from other entrepreneurs to help them get through their day to day hardships. This is because no one understands your struggles like someone else who went through it themselves does. Well luckily for those of you who are looking for good tips, Tera Hodges has eight life hacks that lead to success for any entrepreneur.
Tera herself runs a faith based media company and has been widely successful in the world of business despite all of the ups and downs that come with it. Here are her eight tips for success.
1. The first 15 minutes of your day should be spent in prayer, meditation.
Like with many other professions, running a good business starts with the little things like how you start your day. Get off on the right foot, centering yourself, and putting your mind at ease or in focus can help lead you to that good morning start and balance your day.
2. Seek professional advice on business projects you’re working on or for personal results you want to see in your life.
Any kind of development needs professional mentorship. Tera herself has had mentors in her life that have helped her through some of the most difficult aspects of both her personal and professional life. For any other person doing the same, you should always look for advice and mentorship from people that you trust.
3. Schedule your day or your day will schedule you.
Time is finite and bad time management can allow a day, your tasks, and your business to get ahead of you and you will find yourself scrambling to catch up. Tera suggests keeping yourself on time and scheduled to keep your day neat and organized in order to avoid the chaos that will try and seep through your routine.
4. Set goals that you break down into timelines and actionable steps.
Related to the previous step, it is important to keep your time and your steps manageable. Tera explains: “All of my clients have dreams. But, dreams have to become ideas, then actionable steps you take for them to become a reality.” By breaking down and creating your times tables and lists, you can make those dreams a reality!
5. Hire help: chef, maid, etc. You’d be surprised how much time and energy it saves you and may not be as expensive as you think.
Here, Tera shares her own experience: “I turn down business opportunities almost daily. I have a vision for my life and money is only part of that vision. If the opportunity will cost me peace, time I have set aside for my family, and anything else that matters to me, I don’t want it.” Often the first thing that people lose when they start a business is time with their family. Tera does not want anyone to sacrifice that time for anything and sometimes that means paying people for help around the house so that you can enjoy the time that you have with your family and friends to maintain a healthy life balance.
6. Limit the time you spend around negative people.
As with any other aspect of life, many people are there just to tear you down and end up wasting your time rather than supporting you. Tera advises to let those people go out of your life because at the end of the day, you are only hurting yourself by staying with them!
7. Cultivate relationships with mentors.
Related to previous steps, mentors are crucial! Tera cannot say this enough when it comes to starting your own business. While you can get advice, both personally and professionally, from anyone, having a mentor to help you along the entirety of your career can help you even more because they track and assist in measuring your progress and growth.
8. Ask more questions about the future than you do the past. Where you’re going is more important than where you’ve been.
While it is easy to stick on the past and rehash things forever, the future is what is ultimately more important. Tera elaborate: “Everyone has made mistakes, been lied to, endured unfair treatment, etc. But, when you own your story, your story can never own you.” This advice is what it means to move on! No mistake can ever define you, so keep on going and focus on what lies ahead.
